by Jim Spier Men 200 Meters Final There was never any doubt as Tate Taylor completed the 100-200 double. His 19.83 was the meet record. Blake Hamilton competed the American sweep, running 20.31. Gary Card of Jamaica, one of the original favorites, finished 6th in 20.74. 800 Meters Final There were no Americans in the final, and battle was between two 1:44 types: Imad Bouchajda (Morocco) and Daniel Williams (Australia).The Moroccan burst past Williams halfway through the final lap and Williams could not cover. It was Bouchajda 1:44.64 to Williams 1:45.36 110 Meter Hurdles Final Le’Ezra Brown continued his winning ways with a big world junior record equaling performance of 12.72. Zacchaeus Brocks, seemingly out of medal contention after hitting hurdle, recovered to get the bronze medal, running 12.98, equaling his personal best. 400 Meter Hurdles Semis Miller Warme was the second overall qualifier running 49.48. He was the leading qualifier in the first round. The leader was World U18 Record Holder Taiju Goto (Japan) in 49.19. His record is 48.09. Keenen Davis qualified in 3rd in heat 3 of 3 in 50.47, well below his best. It appears that it will take sub-49 to win the race. 4x100 Meter Qualifying The US successfully got the stick around a led all qualifiers, running 38.87. The team was Jayson Smith, Dillon Mitchell, Kyler Brown and Auralleus Hicks. 4x400 Meters Qualifying The US got the world junior lead (3:04.55) as the leading qualifier. The team comprised of Ade Lloyd, Cameron Tucker, Carlo Johnson and Alexander Osayemi. High Jump Final Maddox Krotzer was 4th in what was his first world competition. He had no misses through 7-01.5, then missed three times at the ultimate winning height of 7-03. Long Jump Final Quincy Isaac moved from 6th the 4th in Round 5 with 25-06.75 , just out of the medals. He appeared to get into medal contention on his final jump, but he fouled ever so slightly. The gold and silver were decided by ¼”, with Daniele Inzoli (Italy) jumping 26-01.75 and Australian Mason Mc Groder 26-01.5, that on his final jump. Discus Qualifying Simon Roselli was one of thirteen auto qualifiers, throwing the disc 199-07 on his first attempt. Chris Marcell threw 59.85 and finished 15th overall, not qualifying with 196-04. Decathlon Liam Belo Da Silva (Sweden) bettered 8000 points with a 8112 victory. Two through four were very close. Second went to Mikai Snoek (Netherlands) with 7887 points, third and 10 points back (7877) was Adam Julis (Czechia) and fourth was Killian Trochan (France) at 7856. Brody Foster was 13th (7474) and Darius Jones 28th (5698). Women 200 Meters Final Like Tate Taylor, Mia Maxwell completed the 100-200 double, and this time with a PB 22.37. Shanoya Douglas of Jamaica, second in the 100 to Mia, was second here as well, running 22.68. She was part of a Maxwell sandwich with Mariah finished 3rd in 22.77. 800 Meters Final Paige Sheppard looked good in Round 1 and the Semis but didn’t have it in the finals, finishing 8th in 2:06.94. It was a slow, tactical race, won by Ziva Remic (Slovenia) in 2:03.03. 3000 Meters Final Five of the top seven runners achieved personal best in an event won by Ethiopian Yordanos Tsigab in 8:43.65. Chiara Dailey was 21st in 9:24.92 100 Meter Hurdles Final Madeleine Cooper did not look like a world beater in the heats and semis, but beat the world in the finals. Her time of 12.91 equaled he world U20 lead. Second was Tumi Ramokgopa (South Africa) in 12.96. She had just qualified for the 400 Meter Hurdles final an hour earlier. 400 Meter Hurdles Semis Natalie Dumas chopped her steps several times through hurdle six, then went down after crashing into hurdle 7. Tatum Lynn, from lane 1, could manage only 58.84 for 17th place. 4x100 Meters Qualifying Disaster struck the U.S. as only 3 from each qualified without any “time” qualifiers. The US anchor got run down by Nigerian Oluebube Ezechukwu to take the spot away from the Americans. Ironically, the Americans had the fourth fastest time overall. The American team was Madeleine Cooper, Ava Kitchings, Sanyah Keeton and Naija Sizemore. 4x400 Meters Qualifying The US led all qualifiers with 3:32.66. The team was Ashtyn Lewis, Taylor-Nicole Overton, Sydney Kuhn and Olivia Harris. Pole Vault Kylie Neira has had quite a year. The Florida International soon-to-be sophomore was fourth the Conference USA meet at 13-05, and was second at the USATF U20 meet with a PR of 13-11. Then she made it out of the qualifying round (in 6th place) at the World Athletics U20 Championships before finishing third (!) in the finals. Her 14-03.25 in that event was yet another PR. Triple Jump Qualifying She’anna Hall qualified 11th with 42-07.75. De’Anna Cotton just missed qualifying, in 13th, with 42-07.25. The leader was Daria Vrinceanu at 44-07.25. Mixed 4x100 Meter Relay Italy set the World U20 record in this seldomly run event. Their time was 41.21, and were anchored by 100 Meter bronze medalist Kelly Ann Doualla Edimo. The US was third in 41.39, with the team of Cy Lugo, Ahlayna Taylor, Nicholas Altheimer and Ava Kitchings. |
