Men

400 Meters Final

Leendert Koekemoer (South Africa), the potential threat to break up the American sweep was sandwiched between Quincy Wilson and Jayden DeLeon. Koekemoer was threatening down the home stretch but Deleon began to pull away. Wilson was gaining but could not catch Deleon. Jayden got the meet record (44.47) and improved on his US High School lead. Quincy got a seasonal best of 44.62 and Koekemoer finished third in 44.96.

3000 Meters Final

It was an incredible race for Kenyan Emmanuel Kiprono, setting a meet record of 7:28.28. Thirteen of the top 15 spots attained personal bests including Owen Powell of the US in 10th(7:53.35). Noah Bontrager was 15th in 8:09.10

Triple Jump Final

This was one of the great competition of the meet. The lead changed hands a half dozen times with Michael-Andre Matthew Edwards getting the winning mark 56-00 on his final jump. Miles Nesmith got the national high school record of 55-01 in second. Five of the top 6 were PBs.

Hammer Throw Final

One of the favorites, Jawei Chen was the winner (259-08). But second place surprisingly went to American Kayden Hulet, who moved from 3rd to 2nd on his final throw, getting a 15 feet PR of 254-05 in doing so. (His PR with the lighter 12 pound hammer is 252-03)

Javelin Throw Final

The favorite won and got his 80 meters. Jan-Hendrik Heymans (South Africa), leading for the entire event, threw 80.50 (264-01) on his final throw to solidify his win and get the World Junior lead. Addison James (Dominica) got his country’s national record in third, with a toss of 242-05.

200 Meters Semi Finals

Tate Taylor (20.34) and Blake Hamilton (20.38) led all qualifiers

800 Meter Semi Finals

Kaleb Burroughs was 25th (1:51.38) and Stefan Dodoo was disqualified. Nashon Pkiach (Kenya) led all qualifiers with a personal best 1:45.82.

110 Meter Hurdles Semi Finals

Le’Ezra Brown led all qualifiers with a windy 12.82. Jeremy Koga (Japan) was the second fastest with an Asian record of 12.95. Zacchaeus Brocks was third overall with 13.00. Koga’s was one of two area records set by the finalists. The other the South American record set by Odair Goncalves, Brazil, 13.19. Two others set national records: Anthony Johnsen (Norway), 13.07 and Jahcario Wilson (Bahamas), 13.17.

Decathlon (High Jump, 400 meters)

Scores after Day 1: Mael-Bephassou Lannurien (France) leads with 4258 points; Liam Belo Da Silva (Sweden) is in second with 4159, and Daniel von der Heyden (South Africa) is in third with 4133. Americans Brody Foster is in 13th (3904) and Darius Jones is in 31st (3004)

Women

400 Meters Final

Anastazja Kus (Poland) looked to be a threat to the Americans, having run well in the semis, and having had run 51.60 in June. She proved to be more than that in the finals, winning in 51.06 a National U20 record for Poland. Ataja Stephane-Vazquez was second in 51.36, and U of Georgia soon-to-be sophomore, Tianna Springer (Guyana) was third in 51.76. Clara Adams of the US was 7th in 52.76.

3000 Meter Steeplechase Final

Almaz Yohannis (Ethiopia) took the world lead of 9:15.81 with the win. There were national records in this event for Sweden, Czechia, Greece, Egypt and Portugal. American Sierra Wall finished 14th in 10:21.21.

200 Meters Semi Finals

The Maxwell twins were bracketed by Jamaicans Shanoya Douglas (22.53) and Soshana Johnson (22.82). Mariah ran 22.78 and Mia 22.87.It will be quite a final.

800 Meters Semi Finals

Paige Sheppard looked strong in winning her heat, running 2:01.97 and leading all qualifiers. Ellie Barada finished 14th in 2:05.06.

100 Meter Hurdles Semi Finals

Madeleine Cooper (13.14) and Tori Goodson (13.16) both qualified for the US. The fastest qualifiers, both running 13.02, were Tumi Ramokgopa (South Africa) and Tiana Marshall (Jamaica)
