Men

200 Meters Round 1

(First 3 of each heat (Q) plus 6 fastest times (q) qualify to Semi-Final)

The leader was Amir Thompson (Barbados)/Arizona State at 20.49. Blake Hamilton (Tompkins, Katy, TX) was third overall at 20.54. Jake Odey-Jordan (Samuel Clemens, Schertz, TX)/Great Britain, the 2024 World U20 bronze medalist, was 8th overall at 20.69. Tate Taylor, who won and exiting 100 meter race last night automatically qualified at 21.02. Gary Card, one of the favorites, was disqualified.

110 Meter Hurdles – Round 1

(First 3 of each heat (Q) plus 6 fastest times (q) qualify to Semi-Final)

Le’Ezra Brown (Dudley, Greensboro, NC)/U of Georgia lowered his US U20 record to 12.89, moving to number # 2 all-time World. Zacchaeus Brocks (Detroit Catholic Central, Novi, MI) was the second fastest qualifier at 13.11. They seem to be lock for the gold and silver.

Long Jump Qualifying

(Automatic qualifying mark 25-05 (Q) or at least best 12 qualify to Final)

Quincy Isaac (Canton, MI)/U of Michigan was one of four auto qualifiers, jumping 26-01 on his first attempt. Carter Reckelberg (Becker, MN)/North Dakota State U, at 22-05.5, finished 25th overall and did not advance.

The leader was Daniele Leonardo Inzoli (Italy) at 26-08.5. Shahnavaz Khan (India), the world leader at 27-02.75, qualified 5th at 25-04.25.

Decathlon (100 Meters, Long Jump, Shot Put)

After 3 events, the leader is Daniel Von Der Hayden (South Africa) with 2609. Brody Foster (Halls, Knoxville, TN sits at 18th with 2337 and Darius Jones (Rickards, Tallahassee, FL)/Wisconsin is in 23rd with 2281 points.

Women

200 Meters Round 1

(First 3 of each heat (Q) plus 6 fastest times (q) qualify to Semi-Final)

The Jamaicans ran the fastest two qualifiers. Shanoya Douglas, the 100 meter finalist led with 22.88. Her teammate Sashana Johnson had a personal best 22.95. The Maxwell twins automatically qualified, Mia in 23.30 and Mariah in 22.37, both heat winners.

100 Meter Hurdles

(First 3 of each heat (Q) plus 6 fastest times (q) qualify to Semi-Final)

Tiana Marshall (Jamaica) led all qualifiers with 13.10. Also under 13.20 and qualifying second was Tumi Ramokgopa (South Africa) at 13.16. The US athletes qualified easily. Madeline Cooper (Drew Charter, Atlanta, GA)/U of Georgia the 2026 World U20 leader, won her heat in 13.36 and Tori Goodson (Atlee, Mechanicsville, VA)/U of North Carolina was second in her heat and ran the identical time as Cooper.

High Jump Qualifying

(Automatic qualifying mark 6-00.25 (Q) or at least best 12 qualify to Final)

Thirteen girls all qualified at 5-10.25. They included Americans Bailey Hensgens (Incarnate Word Academy, St. Louis, MO and Brianna Rivers (Summer Creek, Humble, TX)/U of Oklahoma. Bailey tied for first with no misses, and Brianna tied for 11th with 2 misses.

Hammer Qualifying

(Automatic qualifying mark 208-04 (Q) or at least best 12 qualify to Final)

We cannot recall when an American was the leading qualifier in the Hammer, much less having two qualifiers to the final. Burklie Burton (Layton, UT)/Oklahoma State U, the Big 12 champ, lead all qualifiers with 223-02, a personal best. Meagan Ewers (Medgar Evers Prep, Brooklyn, NY/U of Kentucky was 10th overall, threw 197-08. Meagan has improved over 50 feet since high school.

The last time the US had a finals qualifier in this event was in 2018 when Alyssa Wilson won the silver medal.

Javelin Qualifying

(Automatic qualifying mark 177-02 (Q) or at least best 12 qualify to Final)

It was a good day for the long throws for the U.S. Emily Harbach (Argyle, TX)/Rice U got the auto qualifier on her first attempt, throwing 173-09. Sophia Mazzoni (Derry Area, Derry, PA)/Auburn U was the 8th overall qualifier at 165-01.

The top two entrants took 1 and 2 in the qualifying, both automatically, Aseel Osama Abdel Hamid of Egypt, the African U20 champ, coming in with a best of 200-00, threw 183-04, and Vita Barbic of Croatia, a 199-02 thrower, had the leader today at 184-07.
