Hedengren could be the first to sweep the Nike Cross Nationals, Nike Indoor Nationals, and Nike Outdoor Nationals individual titles in the same year. She is undefeated in the mile, 2 mile, and 5000m this year, and her only loss to a high schooler came to her teammate, Lily Alder, in the 800 meter at the Utah State Championships. Vause will compete in the 5,000m  on Thursday and the 3,000m on Saturday.

Many of the events will feature head-to-head competition between the nation’s top-ranked athletes. Here are the featured events that are a must-watch:

Girls

  • The top six ranked US High Schoolers, Dana Wilson, Mia Maxwell, Taylor Nunez, Kylah Woods, Celeste Robinson, and Mariah Maxwell face off in the best high school field ever assembled. Wilson, the fourth fastest, and Maxwell, the fifth fastest 100-meter sprinters of all time, could threaten the 11-second barrier and the national record of 10.89 set by Shawnti Jackson in 2023.

  • In the 200m, Wilson, US #2, Mariah Maxwell, US #4, McKenzi Roberson, US #5, and Tyra Cox, US #6 square off in this scorching lineup. Wilson ran a slightly wind-aided 22.21(+2.1) on May 2 and was ever-so-close to Allyson Felix’s high school record of 22.11 set at altitude.

  • Jane Hedengren set two high school records in four days two weeks ago and will have an opportunity to lower her records. On Saturday, she’ll run the 3,000 meter. Her 8:40.99 set en route to running her two-mile record, shattered Mary Cain’s record of 8:58.48, set at Hayward Field, winning gold at the 2014 World U20 Championships.

  • Jessica Oji came ¾ inches shy of the indoor shot put record this past season. Her outdoor best of 55 feet 11 inches ranks her third best all time and is just three feet shy of the outdoor national record of  58 feet 1 inches set by Alyssa Johnson in 2017.

Boys

  • Three of the five fastest 100-meter sprinters in high school history will contend for the title. Junior Tate Taylor set the national record of 9.92 at the UIL 6A state championships with Brayden Dashun Williams finishing second in 10.01, US #4 All Time. Maurice Gleaton Jr ran 9.98 on April 23 to record the third fastest of all time.

The top two fastest freshmen of all time, Dillon Mitchell, 10:17, and Chinweoke Onwuchekwa, 10.18 are also in the field and could lower the freshman record.

  • Sophomore Cooper Lutkenhaus has not lost an 800-meter race to a high school runner in his two years of high school. He set the indoor national record at the Millrose Games, 1:46.86, against pro runners and then broke Michael Granville’s 29-year-old record of 1:46.45 in winning the Brooks PR Invitational in 1:46.26. He won last year’s Nike Outdoor title as a freshman, the first ever to do so.

  • US # 2 All Time, Ja’Shaun Lloyd (13.20) and US #5 All Time, Le’Ezra Brown (13.25) renew their rivalry outdoors in a scorching final. At the Nike Indoor Nationals, Lloyd won the 60-meter hurdles title in 7.49 as Brown clipped the last hurdle and somersaulted to the finish. The national record of 13.07 was set by Wayne Davis in 2009.

  • Junior Jackson Cantwell spring has been like no other. The #1 2026 Football recruit signed a football scholarship with the University of  Miami, and then launched the shot put 76 feet 5 1/4 inches to become the second farthest thrower in high school history. Only two marks set by Michael Carter in 1979 are better. a heave of  77 feet 0 inches and the national record of 81 feet 3.25 inches. That is the oldest mark in the record book of events currently contested at the high school level.

The event will once again feature the Shot Put Showcase on Saturday evening. Jackson Cantwell is the defending champion. This tournament-style event will have three knockout rounds and be contested between a select group of high school shot putters in two separate competitions for boys and girls.

The competition kicks off on Thursday morning and goes through Sunday. The full schedule, registration link, entry guidelines, and much more can be found at NikeOutdoorNationals.com, including:

The 2025 Nike Outdoor Nationals is a partnership between the NSAF, Nike, RunnerSpace, and TrackTown USA. For the second time, the Nike Outdoor Nationals will be held in conjunction with the USATF U20 Championships, taking place during the first two days of competition.
